Oh. My. Goodness.

The progress of special effects over just the past two years is astounding and it just makes me weep sometimes.
Also, I’m just a huge DC fan in general and it made me weep tears of joy at certain parts. My heart is pleased :) (and then other times it was just “umm… No. That’s not like the comics.” but I expected that)
Anyway, here’s my review for all of you people.

*spoiler free until the “Read More”*

Acting: A-; Directing/Cinematography: B+; Editing: A; Writing: C+; Special Effects: A+++

First things first, I almost shed many a nerd tear over this movie (and - just so you know - I am NOT a cryer in any sense of the word). There were feels up and down the spectrum. Feels of awesomeness, joy, fangirling, and utter heart-break.

Acting: Henry Cavill. He did very well. Not Benedict Cumberbatch or Tom Huddleston well, mind you, but I was impressed. In two scenes especially which I cannot mention because of spoilers… But I will down below! The main people that impressed me were Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Kal-El’s real mom, and Henry Cavill. As for everyone else, I wasn’t particularly impressed with any of them. They were just there. While I loved the further development and involvement of Jor-El’s character versus the movies before this one, I owe that to the writers and not to Russell. He did as well as he usually does in movies.

Directing/Cinematography: Not much to report here. It was much like the acting in that it was mediocre; however, there were some shots that made me nerd out like nobody’s business. It was good but didn’t have the same amazingness of Star Trek Into Darkness’s cinematography.

Editing: Like all action movies, the editing has to be good and I will say that, as with this movie, it does not disappoint.

Writing: It was OKAY. It didn’t have the plot holes of The Dark Knight Rises *although there were some…*, but there were some down points. The middle (after the amazing Jor-El sends Kal-El to Earth - which I might say were some AWESOME scenes) was very wibbly wobbly with all of the flashbacks. The reason I gave it a “C+” instead of a “B-” is that they definitely took some liberties with the Superman story line. If you’re a purist you will be very upset. However, I wasn’t disappointed because superhero movies usually don’t get extremely high scores for writing but I still love them so much oh my goodness.

Special Effects: OH MY GOODNESS I JUST CAN’T ASDFGHJKLLASKDFALKGHS! It. Was. Good. There is only one way to sum up my feels about the amazing special effects:

Overall: Go see it. Now. I loved it. It was great. Now go see it. I may seem disappointed but I wasn’t. It was amazing.

Some people love it, and some people hate it, but it seems the one thing on which we can all agree is that Henry Cavill is beautiful. Even the people that hate it are like, “But Henry Cavill is so gorgeous!”

So I can respect you on that account. Feel how you like about the film, but don’t hate on my baby and we’re all good. LOL
